My Big Veggie Takeover Pick Is Officially Out of This World
For this month’s Big Veggie Takeover, I may be bending the “veggie” rules just a little.
Because when you have cinnamon basil from space-exposed seeds, grown right here on Earth, how do you not share it?
These seeds flew aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour on mission STS-118 in 2007, and now this tiny basil plant is doing what every seed does best:
Showing us that growth is one of the most powerful stories we can tell.
It also feels like the perfect little nod to another story of seeds that traveled through space: Macie and the Magic Rocket Seeds, inspired by Chip Carter and the incredible work of Where The Food Comes From as they produce their three-part series, Farming the Moon!, premiering this fall.
That is why I love Josey Crane Burrows’ Big Veggie Takeover campaign.
It is playful.
It is visual.
It is simple.
And it helps good food get seen.
Because the more we celebrate vegetables, fruits, herbs, farmers, growers, gardens, science, and real food, the more we change what gets attention.
And when we change what gets attention, we just might change the food system.
Macie and Cody would definitely approve.
I can hear Grandpa telling the crew, “Now that is what I call space farming, Little Ones” 🚀🌱
So here is my out-of-this-world contribution to this month’s Big Veggie Takeover.
Small plant.
Big story.
Real food magic. ✨ 💚
